Calgary homicide detectives are looking for a man in connection to an unsolved homicide.

Just before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, police responding to reports of a shooting near the 100 block of Del Ray Road N.E. found a critically injured Hussein Merhi lying in a nearby alley.

Merhi, 26, later died at the scene.

Investigators believe Merhi had been involved in an altercation with at least two other people in the alley where his body was found.

Homicide detectives now want to speak with 20-year-old Calgary man Kier Bryan Granado, who hasn’t been seen in the nearly 17 months since Merhi’s murder.

Concerned for his safety, Granado’s family have been in contact with police over his whereabouts.

Granado is Filipino, 5-foot-3, 95 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Late last year, police released new information about two suspects in the case, both described as Caucasian men with blond hair — one with a medium build thought to be 25 years old and wearing black clothing and black sunglasses, and the other with a thin build.

The suspects are believed to have fled the scene in a dark SUV, possibly a 2000 to 2006 model similar to a Ford Escape.

Merhi’s murder capped off a violent year for the city. Thirty-three killings were investigated by police in 2015 — only two fewer than 2008’s deadly Calgary gang wars.

Anybody with information on Granado’s whereabouts is asked to call the Calgary police homicide tip line at 403-428-8877, the CPS non-emergency phone number at 403-266-1234, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
